Morfar

In Morfar, originally a slide show, I concentrated on my grandfather's difficulties in letting go of the past. I photographed him and his old house, still in his ownership 8 years after he and my grandmother had moved out, at a time when he was losing control over the nature surrounding him at the same time as he lost control over his mind and body due to dementia. I was interested in the reverse roles of man and nature and I highlighted my grandfather's loss of identity, which was very closely connected to the house and the things he used to do that defined him, which he could no longer do.

The work touches on the changeable nature of identity, loss and death, both for my grandfather and for myself. It addresses the influence our environment has on our sense of self and the fragility of fixed nature.
